Sterling Specialty Chemicals has advanced production at Plant 100 in Aberdeen Mississippi , with the launch of its new bio-based acrylamide (Bio-AMD) platform, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable, high-performance specialty chemical manufacturing. The facility produces bio-based acrylamide from renewable feedstocks using an enzymatic hydration process — a lower-energy, environmentally conscious alternative to conventional methods.
The project recently achieved key milestones, including equipment installation and commissioning, enzyme system calibration, trial production batches, and successful quality validation and regulatory approval. Bio-based acrylamide is a foundational building block used in high-performance polymers across energy, water treatment, and industrial applications, including friction reducers, enhanced oil recovery systems, and water treatment flocculants. By integrating renewable feedstocks and high-efficiency conversion technology, SSC strengthens supply reliability while providing a lower-carbon alternative without compromising performance.
Plant 100 represents a strategic investment in scalable, responsible manufacturing and positions Sterling Specialty Chemicals to meet growing global demand with innovation, operational strength, and a continued focus on delivering Chemistry that Works
